Volcane Spins

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Volcane Spins is one of those arcade games that looks simple in a screenshot and turns out to be surprisingly fiddly in a good way. You spin rings of volcanic platforms and tap to lock them in place, trying to line up matching symbols before the next wave rolls through. The whole thing runs on rhythm, and once it clicks you stop thinking and just react.

We tested it over about a week on a mid-range Android phone, and the control feel is the standout. One thumb does everything, which makes it perfect for commutes. The tap registration felt crisp with almost no lag, and the difficulty ramps politely instead of throwing walls at you. Battery drain was modest for how animated the screen is, mostly because the lava effects are clever loops rather than heavy particle work.

It's not deep in the way an RPG is deep, and marathon sessions can get repetitive. But as a five-minute palate cleanser it's genuinely satisfying, and the haptic feedback on a successful lock is weirdly addictive. We kept opening it "just once more" for days.
