Emberfall Chronicles

★★★★★ 4.6 Editor rating

Emberfall Chronicles is the kind of RPG that respects your time without dumbing itself down. Combat is turn-based and readable, so you can plan a whole fight at a red light and resolve it at the next one. The writing does a lot of heavy lifting, giving your four companions distinct voices that carry the thirty-odd hour campaign.

Touch controls here are thoughtful. Everything important sits within thumb reach, and there's a one-handed layout toggle buried in the settings that we wish more games copied. The auto-save is generous, which matters when your session ends the moment the train doors open. Battery use climbs during the bigger animated boss fights but stays reasonable during exploration.

If we have a gripe, it's that the early hours lean on tutorials a bit too hard. Push past the first act and it opens up beautifully. This is a comfort game, the sort you return to on a rainy evening.
